AIPSO responds to the proposed National IMG exam
Of the 1,387 international medical graduates who applied, only 294, or 21.2 per cent, were matched. That means roughly four out of every five foreign-trained grads were turned away and now have to wait another full year to apply.

AIPSO feels that while it is good to have a national assessment for IMDs, we question the ultimate efficacy of the program because it doesn’t solve the underlying problems. The underlyign issue is the lack of residencies for IMDs and the near impossibilty for experienced foreign physicians to get a practice ready assessment.

We are doing all the peripherals but we are not addressing the core issue. More funds and political will is needed to remove the obstructionists who are bent on preventing qualified doctors form practicing medicine and serving the long suffering public.
